Financial Assistance

Non-PMA Financial Assistance Resources

The need is greater than PMA alone can solve

The People's Memorial Association Funeral Financial Assistance Fund has limited financial support and cannot keep up with demand. If you'd like to support the FFA Fund, please donate here. Each $950 collected helps another family afford a basic cremation.

Thankfully these organizations can help

Recompose Community Fund

"The Community Fund is driven by generous contributions from our community and helps provide the Recompose service to people who could not otherwise afford it. Access to this funding is first come, first served, and is available once a death has occurred."  - Recompose website

Recompose is Washington state's first natural organic reduction funeral home, also know as recomposition or human composting. Their Community Fund only connects recipients with natural organic reduction services.

Return Home

Return Home is a natural organic reduction funeral home, also know as recomposition or human composting. They offer two types of free services to all customers:

  • Free terramation for children 17 or younger;
  • Free terramation for victims of suicide.

Please call 206.752.4777 to speak to a Return Home funeral director to enquire.

Your county may offer free or reduced disposition services with limitations

Funeral poverty and deceased going "unclaimed" is a major problem across our country. County medical examiners work tirelessly to contact next of kin or find responsible parties for all decedents who enter their care. Those who have no next of kin or whose next of kin cannot afford a private funeral service receive disposition services from the county medical examiner's office.

Depending on the county you live in, your county may offer free or discounted cremation (or other disposition services). Availability, cost, and what is permitted varies greatly across counties.

You can search Google for "(my county) coroner" or "(my county) medical examiner" or search the Washington Associations of County Officials for a coroner in your county.
