Alkaline Hydrolysis
People's Memorial negotiates discounted pricing for alkaline hydrolysis at several partnering funeral homes.
These contractual prices are in effect from July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027.
With the passage of SB 5001: Concerning Human Remains in 2019, Washingtonians now have access to a new, greener form of disposition: alkaline hydrolysis. Also known as aquamation or water cremation, alkaline hydrolysis is a gentle process that uses water, temperature, pressure, and alkalinity (potassium hydroxide) to reduce the body to bones, which are then processed into ashes and returned to the family in an urn. Cremation is the most similar reduction method using flame, however alkaline hydrolysis uses approximately 1/8th of the energy.
